Q: Why does the "No CAN Do Behavioral Training Kit" work?
A: The technique is based upon "associative reinforcement". It works because dogs are very sensitive to and are easily startled by certain types of sounds or noises, so if your dog is startled or interrupted while he is in the act of misbehaving, he will equate, or associate, that misbehavior with an unpleasant experience, and will attempt to avoid it in the future.
Q: Is this training method harmful to a dog?
A: Yes, but only if you misuse the product and do not follow the training instructions exactly. This is because the sound startles dogs quite a lot, so be careful to use it only as instructed and no more than the recommended number of times.
Q: Will this work on a dog even if it has had no training?
A: Yes, most of the time. There may be instances where this technique won't work, but if so, it is probably because the dog is a true delinquent and may need more structured, formal training. Seek the advice of a professional dog behavioral specialist before you give up on any pet! They deserve every chance you can give them!
Q: If this is so effective, why should I also enroll my dog in an obedience training class?
A:Even though this should stop your dog's bad behavior, training will establish you as the leader of the pack (or alpha), and offer other benefits such as learning to heel, stay, sit, lay down, etc., which will make your companion even more enjoyable to have around.
